Good food. Calm home.
Sip Savor Mix is a food blog written from a real family kitchen by a mom who did not start out as a good cook. It is where I share the dinners I actually make for my three kids on weeknights, the slow cooker meals that carry us through fall and winter, and the small kitchen habits that keep everything running when the evening gets loud.
Nothing here is fussy. Recipes are written in plain language and built for the way people really cook: after a long day, with a full fridge or an empty one, and with hungry people waiting.
Hi, I am Isabel Bernard
I am a stay at home mom to three kids and the cook behind Sip Savor Mix. Before the kids I was a teacher, and for the longest time I was honestly not the best cook. I could follow a box, I could order in, and I burned more than one pan of rice. Dinner was something I got through rather than something I looked forward to.
That changed when I decided to take cooking for my family seriously. I started with a handful of recipes, made them again and again until they came out right, and wrote down what worked and what did not. The teacher in me could not help turning those notes into clear steps that anyone could follow. Those notes became this site.
“If I can learn to cook for a family of five, you can too.”
I am still learning, and this site grows with me. Every recipe is written for a standard oven, a 6 quart slow cooker and the same grocery store ingredients you already buy, with clear steps and notes on the spots where things usually go wrong.
From a box of mac and cheese to a full table
This site started as a folder of recipe notes on my phone. When my third child was born I was home full time with three kids under seven, and the easy way out at dinner was costing us money and leaving everyone cranky. I gave myself one job: learn to put a real dinner on the table most nights without losing my mind.
I leaned on the slow cooker first, because it let me cook while the kids were awake and serve when my husband got home. Then came the casseroles, the soups, the one pot pasta dinners, and eventually the holiday meals I used to dread. A friend asked for the notes. Then another. Sip Savor Mix is those notes, cleaned up and written out clearly, for anyone else who is learning as they go.
I am not a trained chef and I do not pretend to be one. What I have is a teacher’s habit of explaining things step by step, three honest critics at the table every night, and a few years of making the same mistakes so you do not have to.

Simple recipes, written plainly
Every recipe on this site is written for a regular home kitchen: a standard oven, a 6 quart slow cooker and the same grocery store ingredients you already buy.
- Measurements are given in cups, tablespoons and ounces, with temperatures in Fahrenheit.
- Meat and poultry recipes list the safe internal temperature so you never have to guess.
- Each post explains what the key ingredients do and what you can swap when you are out of something.
- Storage, freezing and reheating notes are included, because leftovers are half the point.
